More on the Sports Card Event

October 30, 2011

Thanks to all who helped contribute to the success of the Elks 1st Annual Sports Card, Stamp and Coin show on October 16 at the Elks Hall.  This event was our first and we tried something different to support the lodge’s  Elks Scholarship Fund.  So thanks to anyone from the lodge who decided to drop in and check out the many tables filled with baseball, football, and other sports cards and other sports memorabilia, and the various coin and stamp tables.  We had raffles, and sold hot dogs, hamburgs, and chili to add to the event.  Thanks to Tony Cassella, Art Dow for grilling the hot dogs and hamburgs and cooking the food for the event.  Thanks to the scholarship committee members that organized and helped out with the even:  Bob Swick, Brenda Bentley, Charlotte Smith, and Joe Doll .  Also thanks and to Kevin Kelley and Nick Palermo for helping with the table setup.

Exalted Ruler Shari Dziekan looks like she’s doing a little Karaoke there huh?  No, not really, she was giving the kudos to all those who helped in preparing such a nice event.  Although she has been known to do a little singing to “Paradise by the Dashboard Lights” with me at times…

A night filled with food, laughter and cheers attended by bright students, proud parents, volunteers, Elks members, Wallingford school officials, and State dignitaries happened at the Wallingford Elks Lodge on Thursday, May 7, 2009, to award our state and local scholarship winners and the National Honor Roll Society students from Wallingford, CT. Our beloved MC, Bob Parisi, once again asked lots of questions and gave out chuckles along with the certificates to the students. He made sure we ended up getting a sense of who these bright young adults of our future are. Our State Senator, Len Fasano, was also on board to assist with handing out an award from the State to each of the students in attendance. In addition, Bob Swick, the co-chairman of our Elks Scholarship Committee handed out the National and local scholarships awards to the winning students. Each student and family also had their photograph taken by Ray Ross. Thanks to all who assisted in any and every way to help make this a successful event.

A tasty meal of moist chicken breasts, veggies, and potatoes, followed by a large slice of creamy cheesecake was prepared by the volunteers from the Wallingford Wishing well with help from Elks members and served by the Elks officers. It might have been a long night, but it was well worth it as evidenced by the smiles and laughter shared by all.

Valentine’s Dance

February 19, 2008

Elks 1365 once again held a phenomenal dinner dance. The Valentine’s dinner dance held in the hall was spectacular. The dinner was prime rib with vegetables and potatoes, a huge salad bar with about 15 items to choose from, two fabulous soups; lobster bisque and Italian wedding, and to finish off the meal, two different choices of home made cake. Dancing to the music from the DJ, Johnny the Music Man, was lots of fun. Don’t forget to check out the pictures once Lou or Corey has them posted on the Elks Photo site.

1st Annual Elks Wine Tasting

November 26, 2007

wine-tasting-034.jpgOur 1st annual Elks Wine Tasting event was held this November. This was a benefit for the Elks Scholarship fund. Lots of great food and wine was tasted. There was Penne Ala Vodka, Turkey gobblers (turkey, stuffing, cranberry on bread), pumpkin cheesecake to name a few of the items. Wines were listed in categories so you could see what wines went with different foods for Thanksgiving. We had lots of attendees and everyone had a wonderful time. Thanks to Paul Hanks, our DJ du jour, for playing some nice background music.

Clam chowder, hamburgers, cheeseburgers, fries, and chicken tenders were sold. What a wonderful weekend. Officers and fellow Elks’ members helped out setting up, taking orders, cooking, cleaning up and of course eating! Enjoy the pics.
